Vietnamese army prepared to support Myanmar's earthquake relief efforts
VOV.VN - The Vietnam People's Army (VPA) has outlined a deployment plan for disaster relief efforts in Myanmar, with 79 military personnel comprising command staff, communications teams, search-and-rescue forces, military dog handlers, and medical staff.

Colonel Pham Hai Chau, deputy director of the VPA General Staff’s Search and Rescue Department, will lead the mission.
In response to the emergency, the Minister of National Defence has instructed the General Staff to organize a relief force, which will be deployed to assist Myanmar in disaster recovery once approved by the central authorities.
In coordination with relevant agencies, the General Staff’s Search and Rescue Department has developed a detailed deployment plan. The team’s equipment will be carefully selected to ensure operational efficiency, drawing on Vietnam’s experience in earthquake relief efforts in Turkey in 2023. Deployment is expected to start on March 30.
The General Department of Logistics and Technical Services, along with the Military Personnel Department, is handling transportation and supply chain logistics. Meanwhile, the Foreign Relations Department is coordinating with the Air Defence-Air Force Service and commercial airlines to facilitate the transport of personnel, equipment, and relief supplies to the disaster zone.
Senior Lieutenant General Huynh Chien Thang, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, emphasised that Vietnam’s participation demonstrates the country’s commitment to international humanitarian efforts and highlights the VPA’s capability in global cooperation.
He urged all relevant agencies to expedite necessary procedures, particularly in transport logistics, relief supplies, and safety measures, to ensure a swift and effective deployment.
Vietnam’s military units stand ready to mobilise immediately upon receiving the final go-ahead, leveraging their experience from previous international relief missions, he added.
