Nearly 15,000 HCM City children infected with COVID-19
VOV.VN - Ho Chi Minh City, the country’s largest coronavirus hotspot in Vietnam, has recorded a total of 14,800 children under 16 infected with COVID-19 since the beginning of the year, according to the city’s Department of Health.
Of the total, approximately 12,000 kids have fully recovered, and 13 have died of the virus, said Nguyen Huu Hung, deputy director of the city’s Health Department, at a meeting held on September 8 to review the pandemic situation in the city.
He added that the victims also suffered from a variety of underlying illnesses, including cancer.
At present, the Health Ministry is looking for COVID-19 vaccines that can be administered to people under 18 amid calls for the inoculation of children before they can return to school.
However, despite Vietnam’s efforts to get access to vaccine sources, supplies remain limited and can therefore only meet a fraction of the needs. The MoH has urged localities to vaccinate priority groups from 18 years old and above, including medical personnel, frontline workers, elderly people, and people with underlying health conditions.
When more supplies eventually become available, it will issue guidelines for the vaccination of children under 18.
