Naval ships bring Tet gifts to soldiers stationed on duty at DK1 Platform

VOV.VN - Apricots, kumquat trees, sticky rice, and la dong (dong leaves) were among the Tet gifts brought to soldiers on duty at sea by a delegation from the mainland.

This month, many naval ships from the High Command of Naval Zone sailed from Vung Tau city to visit officers and soldiers who are serving on DK1 Platform and Radar Station 590 on Con Dao island.
The two ships, Truong Sa 08 and Truong Sa 19, carried with them Tet gifts from the High Command of Naval Zone 2 to soldiers serving at sea.
Thousands of gifts were delivered to the soldiers.
Colonel Nguyen Quoc Van from the High Command of Naval Zone 2 said this is an annual activity. The delivery shows the sentiments and best wishes of people across the country to the armed forces who are doing their duty at sea and on the various Vietnamese islands.
Sticky rice, la dong (dong leaves), and pork meat are brought to soldiers doing duty at sea to prepare Banh Chung (square glutinous rice cake).
Yellow apricot branches are brought to soldiers ahead of the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival.
Colonel Hung Vinh Tuyen from the High Command of Naval Zone 2 carefully wraps kumquat tree pots which are a special gift from Van Giang District People’s Committee in Hung Yen Province to Radar Station 590 on Con Dao island.
The end of the lunar year is also an opportunity for units to change their troops.
Major Nguyen Tien Long is called up to do his duty on DK1 Platform after spending three months home. His wife and child see off him.
Soldiers receive the Tet gift packages sent by military units and people nationwide.
