National Scientific Conference on HIV/AIDS hosted in Hanoi
(VOV) - The 6th National Scientific Conference on HIV/AIDS was held by the Vietnam Administration for HIV/ AIDS Control (VAAC) under the Ministry of Health at Hanoi Medical University on November 24, attracting more than 1.000 domestic and international delegates.
The conference was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long and French virologist and director of the Regulation of Retroviral Infections Division at the Institut Pasteur in Paris, FranceFrançoise Barré-Sinoussi.
Within the framework of the conference, two satellite sessions entitled “Perspectives on Transitioning and Sustaining the HIV response in Vietnam” and “New HIV testing strategies for 90-90-90: implementation, tools and lessons learned” are scheduled to organize on the same day.
Globally, community-based HIV testing model are being adopted as part of 90-90-90 strategies to increase access, particularly among HIV high-risk groups. In Vietnam, The VAAC is piloting community-based testing model under its 2016 -2020 strategy, as part of its efforts to achieve the first ‘90’ target: ‘90% of people living with HIV know their HIV status’.
Vietnam is committed to achieving the UNAIDS fast track 90-90-90 goals -- 90% of those living with HIV know their status, 90% of those who know their status are on treatment, and 90% of those on treatment are virally suppressed to end the HIV epidemic by 2030.
