National conference on eradicating makeshift, dilapidated houses scheduled for Jan. 6
VOV.VN - A national online conference on eradicating makeshift and dilapidated houses will be held on January 6, 2025, to evaluate and work out solutions to eliminate substandard housing across the country, according to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA).
The Party Central Committee issued Resolution No. 42 on January 24, 2023, on continuing to improve the quality of social policies to meet the requirements of national construction and defense in the new phase. More than a year later, the Party’s Secretariat issued Directive No. 34, emphasizing the strengthening of the Party’s leadership in the development of social housing in the new context. The goal set for 2030 is to completely eliminate makeshift and dilapidated houses for poor households, near-poor households, and people affected by natural disasters and climate change.
To realize the Party’s guidelines, the government launched an emulation campaign in April 2024, aimed at eradicating makeshift and dilapidated houses nationwide by 2025, five years ahead of scheduled.
The campaign has been actively supported and implemented by the Vietnam Fatherland Front, ministries, agencies, localities, businesses, and individuals. Through various forms of assistance, many new houses meeting three criteria - solid foundation, solid frame and walls, and solid roof, with a lifespan of 20 years or more - have been completed.
So far, nearly VND6 trillion has been raised for the programme, according to the Organizing Committee.
During the January 6 conference, policymakers, experts and philanthropists will review the state of makeshift and dilapidated housing in localities across the country, highlight successful models and initiatives from local communities in supporting housing construction and improvement, and discuss policies and resources to support citizens, especially vulnerable groups such as low-income households and ethnic minorities.
The overall goal of the programme is to ensure safe and adequate housing for all citizens, contributing to improved living standards and social stability.
“We strive to achieve the goal of eliminating all approximately 450,000 dilapidated and substandard houses by the end of 2025,” said MOLISA Minister Dao Ngoc Dung.
