NA leader hosts delegations of Lao, Cambodian women’s unions

VOV.VN - National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man hosted a reception on July 7 in Hanoi for delegations of Lao and Cambodian women and female entrepreneurs who attended a forum connecting businesswomen of the three nations.

The Party, State, and people of Vietnam always treasure and seek to foster the traditional friendship that exists with the Parties, States, and peoples of Laos and Cambodia, the top legislator told his guests.

The Vietnamese side therefore aspires to constantly reinforce and cultivate its great friendship, special solidarity, and multifaceted co-operation with Laos, as well as its close neighbourliness, traditional friendship, all-round ties, and long-lasting collaboration with Cambodia. This is being done to enjoy the benefits of each country's people and for the causes of peace, stability, co-operation, and development in the region and the world, he said.

Hailing the role of Laotian and Cambodian women's unions in leading female movements in their respective nations whilst protecting and promoting women's rights, he stated that he is glad to see the traditional friendship among the three countries and three unions increasingly grow and flourish.

The unions have worked together in a broad array of exchanges and activities that have contributed to boosting ties whilst promoting women's development in each nation, particularly their signing and implementation of the co-operation agreement for the 2022 to 2027 period.

They have also actively collaborated with localities, especially those in border areas, in cross-border co-operation activities to help maintain the borderlines of peace, friendship, co-operation, and development, NA Chairman Man added.

The top Vietnamese NA leader emphasized that the Vietnamese Party and State consistently prioritise gender equality and the development of women, reflected through the issuance of numerous relevant directives, policies, strategies, projects, and laws. The current 15th NA boasts a total of 151 female deputies, accounting for 30.26% of the overall figure.

Most notably, the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)’s election of Vietnam to the Executive Board of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) for the 2025 to 2027 term in April indicates the international community's recognition and appreciation of the country's policies and achievements in this field, NA Chairman Man went on.

He expressed his confidence that this time, the three women’s unions will continue exchanging experience and successful models, along with connecting female entrepreneurs from the three countries. This will enable women, as well as female entrepreneurs, to make remarkable contributions to the cause of national construction and development efforts in each country and the region as a whole.

Basing on each country's situation, the unions should keep discussing directions and co-operation measures in order to better work for women's development and gender equality, connect businesswomen, and strengthen their traditional friendship ties. Through these efforts the solidarity and comprehensive linkages that exist among the Parties, States, and peoples of the three sides will continue to develop.

At the meeting, Aly Vongnobountham, president of the Lao Women's Union, and Chau Bun Eng, vice president of the Cambodian Women for Peace and Development, gave updates on activities of their respective unions.

They pledged to continue upholding their traditions whilst fostering ties with the Vietnam Women's Union with a view towards improving the professional capacity and performance of their respective unions.
