More than 340 Vietnamese citizens safely repatriated from Australia

VOV.VN - National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines on August 20 conducted a flight to bring home more than 340 Vietnamese citizens left stranded in Australia due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The flight was arranged by relevant Vietnamese agencies, the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia and relevant agencies of Australia, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Among passengers on board the aircraft were minors under 18, elderly people, people with underlying illness, students without accommodation due to the closure of dormitories, and others in specially difficult circumstances.

Due to travel restrictions in place in Australia, the Vietnamese Embassy collaborated with Australian agencies to pick up the citizens in Sydney and Melbourne to the capital’s airport. The embassy also sent officials to the airport to assist the citizens with necessary procedures for their departure.

Vietnam Airlines strictly implemented security, safety and epidemiology measures during the flight, in order to protect the passengers’ health and prevent the spread of the virus.

After landing at Tan Son Nha International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, all the passengers and crew members had their health checked and were taken to quarantine facilities, in line with regulations on COVID-19 prevention and control.

Relevant domestic agencies and Vietnamese representative agencies abroad are devising plans to bring Vietnamese citizens home when domestic quarantine capacity permits.
