Moon bears brought to mainland from remote island
Two captive moon bears reached the mainland last night after spending four years on the remote Ba Mun Island in the northern Quang Ninh Province.
The rescue of the two bears, named Sam and Simon, was described by Animals Asia as the first rescue in its campaign to save the Ha Long Bay bears.
Having spent his entire life in a cage, Simon suffers from a litany of issues such as severely restricted movements, open wounds on his back, scarring on his head and damaged feet, besides possible eye problems. Sam is suffering from arthritis.

The two bears will reach the Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre in the northern Vinh Phuc Province late today.
Animals Asia expects to complete the rescue of the remaining 36 captive moon bears in the province – freeing them from bile farming – by the end of June.
