Minor earthquakes strike Son La and Hue, no damage reported
VOV.VN - The Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Centre under the Institute of Earth Sciences (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) has reported two earthquakes in northern Son La Province and central Hue City, with magnitudes ranging from 3.6 to 4.0.
At 21:25:31 on November 7, an earthquake measuring 4.0 magnitude struck A Luoi 4 Commune, Hue City, at a depth of approximately 8.3 km.
Earlier the same day, at 14:51:56, a 3.6-magnitude earthquake occurred in Binh Thuan Commune, Son La Province, at a depth of 10 km.
Both earthquakes were assessed as level 0 in disaster risk and posed no danger, said the Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Centre
Experts from the Institute of Earth Sciences noted that Son La lies along the Song Da Fault, a geologically active area, making earthquakes relatively frequent. Meanwhile, the A Luoi area in Hue also experiences scattered minor earthquakes due to an active geological fault.
In Vietnam, earthquakes ranging from 4–5 magnitude are considered minor, typically causing objects to shake and making noticeable sounds, which people may feel.
During an earthquake, residents are advised to hold onto a door frame or take cover under a sturdy table indoors, avoid power lines and poles if outside, and pull over safely if driving.
The Earthquake and Tsunami Warning Centre continues to monitor the situation and confirms that no disaster risk has been posed.
