Ministry of Health grants circulation approval for hand, foot and mouth vaccine

VOV.VN - Vietnam’s Ministry of Health has granted circulation approval for several new vaccines in the 58th approval round, including Envacgen, a vaccine against hand, foot and mouth disease caused by Enterovirus A71 (EV71), as sporadic cases are still recorded.

Envacgen is an inactivated injectable vaccine indicated to prevent severe complications caused by EV71, the most dangerous strain linked to the disease in young children. Each dose contains 2.5 mcg of EV71 antigen in 0.5 ml. The vaccine is developed and manufactured by Medigen Vaccine Biologics of Taiwan and is licensed for circulation in Vietnam for three years.

EV71 is one of the main causes of hand, foot and mouth disease and can lead to severe complications such as encephalitis, meningitis and respiratory failure in children. The approval of Envacgen marks an important step in preventing severe complications relating to the virus.

In the same round, the ministry also granted new and renewed circulation registrations for a total of 13 other vaccines and biological products, including seasonal influenza and varicella vaccines. Newly approved vaccines include Vaxigrip for influenza and SKYVaricella for chickenpox.

Several biological products and biopharmaceuticals were also adopted, including Thymoglobuline for organ transplantation, Olokizumab for inflammatory diseases, and drugs containing bevacizumab and rituximab used in cancer treatment.

The ministry said the approvals and renewals aim to ensure supply for disease prevention and treatment. Manufacturers are required to comply with regulations on quality, safety and efficacy throughout the circulation period.
