The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reveals that the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) workshop on the concept Development of the Transnational Threat Information-Sharing Center agrees to develop existing ASEAN’s mechanism and study more on establishing the ARF Transnational Threat Information.
During the press conference, the Deputy Director-General of the ASEAN Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Suriya Chindawongse says that Thailand is praised of propelling regional cooperation in several areas, including the regional security through ASEAN Narcotics Cooperation Center (ASEAN-NARCO) and ASEAN Network of Regulatory Bodies on Atomic Energy.
In the workshop, Thailand also initiates the ATTIC to be the information-sharing center, exchanging news and fact to work on transnational threats so that ASEAN could be a people-centered organization, moving all member countries forward and not leaving anyone behind at a comfort level.
However, the meeting views that ASEAN should advance its own existing organizations, including ASEAN-NARCO before establishing the new mechanism in order to avoid the work overlapping and outline new mechanism priority and responsibility to cope with transnational crime which comes with the ASEAN Connectivity by building the regional immunity.Nonetheless the fix frame time to initiate the new mechanism is not imposed yet.
