VOV.VN - A memorial and burial service for the remains of 12 Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed their lives in Laos was held on June 19 at Tong Khao martyr cemetery in Thanh Nua commune in northern mountainous province of Dien Bien.

The remains were found in Ngoi district of Luang Prabang province by the martyrs’ remains search and repatriation team of Military Region 2 during the 2023 to 2024 dry season.

The identities of the soldiers and experts remained unknown.

Delivering the eulogy at the ceremony, Vu A Bang, vice chairman of the Dien Bien provincial People’s Committee, highlighted the special solidarity between the two Parties and States, as well as the sacrifices made by the Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts.

He stressed that their sacrifices had greatly contributed to the victory of the two countries’ revolutions, as well as to serving to deepen the special friendship and solidarity that exists between the two peoples.

Originally established in June, 1994, Military Region 2’s team has collected and brought home the remains of 1,836 of such people, handing them over to 25 Vietnamese cities and provinces.
