Mekong Delta province makes investment in irrigation
The Mekong Delta province of Long An plans to invest about VND1.58 trillion (over US$70 million) to build irrigation facilities to cope with climate change and protect local production.
The agriculture sector will build an electric pumping system in Thu Thua district and upgrade the irrigation system in Thu Thua and Tan Tru districts to make use of fresh water from the Vam Co Tay (west) River during the dry season.

A water reservoir will be built along the river in Vinh Hung and Thanh Hoa districts with total investment of over VND790 billion (US$35 million), which will provide water for a vast area of Dong Thap Muoi in the dry season.
The locality will also build a dyke system along the Soai Rap and Vam Co Rivers to deal with rising water levels at Long Huu Dong (east) and Long Huu Tay (west) in Can Duoc district.
More than VND500 billion (US$22.1 million) will be used to upgrade 5,000 facilities to exploit underground water and create a water pipeline for rural areas.
The province has devised scenarios to mitigate the impacts of environmental changes in separate sectors and areas, while integrating climate change adaptation measures into the local socio-economic development plan.
