Measles infections tend to increase among Hanoi kids

VOV.VN - Thirty four children in Hanoi are reported to contract measles in the last two months, including one death and the infectious cases tend to increase in the time ahead, according to the Ministry of Health.

Dr Tran Dac Phu, head of the Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health said on November 3 that since the beginning of the year, the country has recorded 230 cases of measles infections, down 28% against the same period last year.

Most of the cases are reported on northern provinces (100), including Hanoi (45), Hai Duong (17) and Nghe An (8). Only one child has been reported death relating to measles so far.

According to the statistics from the Hanoi Department of Preventive Medicine, the number of children infected with measles has increased slightly in Hanoi over the last two months, scattering in 21 districts. Mr Phu said spring and winter is the time for the increase in respiratory diseases including measles. The rate of vaccination over the last 3-4 years reached 97%.

Popular symptoms are high fever, rashes on the body, serious coughing, and conjunctivitis. Doctors have advised that vaccination is the most effective way to prevent the disease from affecting children.
