Measles infections likely to rise in Hanoi in coming months
VOV.VN - The number of measles cases is forecast to rise as the Lunar New Year, known locally as Tet, and Spring festivals are drawing near, according to The Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC).
Statistics show the capital recorded 120 cases of measles across 22 wards and districts from January 3 to 10, up 19 cases compared to the previous week.
Since the beginning of 2024, Hanoi has documented a total of 556 measles cases. This is in contrast to the same period from the previous year when the capital had not recorded any cases.
The Hanoi CDC has warned measles cases are on the rise that fall on groups of children who are not old enough to be vaccinated or who have not yet been fully vaccinated.
It is therefore forecast that more cases may be recorded ahead during the first three months of this year, especially during the Tet holiday due to increasing travel demand.
To prevent measles, Hanoi is actively implementing measles vaccination for children in the Measles Vaccination Campaign.
Aside from measles, last week witnessed the capital also log 67 dengue fever cases, up 12 cases compared to the previous week.
So far, a total of 9,288 cases of dengue fever were documented, an annual decline of 77%.
The city also saw a total of 481 dengue outbreaks this year, with one remaining active.
In addition, last week saw 27 residents diagnosed with hand, foot, and mouth disease, as well as one case of whooping cough.
Other diseases such as tetanus, streptococcus suis, meningococcus, and COVID-19 were not reported during this period.
