Malayan bear transferred to rescue centre
The Education for Nature-Vietnam (ENV) of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (Vusta) on August 18 transferred one Malayan bear weighing 50 kilograms to the Tam Dao Bear Rescue Centre.
On August 8, the ENV was contacted by an animal protection organisation about a person in Xuan Truong district, Nam Dinh province, who voluntarily handed in a Malayan bear that had not been attached with tracking chip.
The ENV said this is a welcoming signal on the changes in people’s awareness towards raising wild animals; it is estimated there are still nearly 1,000 bears caged in the whole country.
The centre hoped that more and more bears will be voluntarily transferred.
