Making Chung cakes unites OVs in Thailand
VOV.VN - Overseas Vietnamese and students in Thailand have gathered at the Vietnam Language Centre in Bangkok to make Chung cakes (square glutinous rice cake) – a speciality for the traditional Lunar New Year Festival (Tet).
Materials like dong leaves, sticky rice and green bean to make the cakes are imported from Vietnam.
Thuy Tien, an OV in Thailand said last year, she also took her children to the Vietnam Language Centre to join other OVs in making Chung cakes. This is a good way to educate children and help them gain a better understanding about their homeland’s culture and customs.
Kittidit Thanaditsuwan, a Thai National TV reporter said he has visited many countries in the world but was very impressed with Tet in Vietnam.
Do Thuy Ha, teacher of Vietnamese in Chulalongkorn University and Director of the Vietnam Language Centre said the centre initially planned to organize the event for students only, but later it attracted many other OVs who came here to learn how to make Chung cakes, she added.
