Major fire breaks out at Hanoi beer factory, no casualties reported
VOV.VN - A large fire broke out on the morning of December 1 at the Hanoi Beer factory (HABECO), sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky. No casualties have been reported.
The fire started at around 6 a.m. in the administrative building of the brewery. Witnesses said the smoke column rose several dozen meters high as multiple fire trucks and police units were dispatched to the scene.
By 7:30 a.m., firefighters extinguished the blaze on the third floor of the administrative block. Authorities said there were no injuries, as the fire occurred before employees arrived for work.
The incident took place during the morning rush hour, causing localised traffic congestion in nearby areas, including Hoang Hoa Tham, Thuy Khue, and Nguyen Dinh Thi streets.
Located on a prime 52,000-square-meter plot at 183 Hoang Hoa Tham Street, the HABECO site serves as both the headquarters of the Hanoi Beer–Alcohol–Beverage Corporation and its production facility. According to the Hanoi People’s Committee’s 2023 decision, the brewery is slated for relocation from the inner city within five years.
In September, city leaders instructed relevant departments to review available land resources to potentially adjust the planned location of a high school at the prime lot (183 Hoang Hoa Tham), prioritising the area for the development of a Hanoi Beer Museum. At the end of November, the municipal People’s Council reaffirmed that the HABECO brewery remains among the industrial facilities required to be relocated in the first phase under Hanoi’s adjusted master plan to 2045 with a vision to 2065.
