No Vietnamese citizens affected in Hong Kong apartment fire

VOV.VN - No Vietnamese citizens have been affected in the Wang Fuk Court residential apartment complex fire in Tai Po District, Hong Kong (China), which occurred on November 26, killing dozens of locals, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang confirmed.

Upon receiving the information, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs instructed the Vietnamese Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau to urgently contact local authorities, assess the potential impact on Vietnamese nationals, and coordinate with the Vietnamese community to monitor the situation and provide consular assistance if needed, said Hang at a press briefing on November 27.

According to the Hong Kong Fire Services Department, the blaze originated from scaffolding surrounding eight 31-story buildings, housing nearly 2,000 apartments and around 4,000 residents. The fire spread rapidly within minutes, engulfing the entire complex.

The latest figures indicate at least 55 fatalities, including 51 on-site and 4 who died after being hospitalized. 123 people were injured, including eight firefighters involved in rescue efforts. 279 individuals remain unaccounted for, with rescue teams racing against time to locate and assist victims.

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee announced that all residential buildings undergoing major renovations in the city will be subjected to thorough inspections following this severe fire.
