Lightning strike punches a hole in Vietnam Airlines fuselage

VOV.VN - Lightning struck a Vietnam Airlines plane parked at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on the evening of October 10, blasting a hole in its fuselage.

The incident occurred at 19:58 at the parking lot P79 when two employees of Vietnam Airport Ground Services Company Limited (VIAGS) were standing under the plane waiting for service.

After the lightning strike, the two employees were found stunned and they were immediately transferred directly to hospital 175 for medical examinations.

Ground staff also checked and found a hole in the fuselage. The incident caused Vietnam Airlines' A321 to stop serving for repair.

According to a representative of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, lightning strikes at the airport are relatively common, but lightning that blasts hole in the aircraft and injures people is rare.
