Lenin statue inaugurated in central Vietnam
VOV.VN - A statue of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin was unveiled on April 16 at the intersection of V.I.Lenin avenue and Nguyen Phong Sac street in Vinh city of Nghe An province, central Vietnam, to commemorate the 154th anniversary of the late Russian leader's birthday on April 22.
Vinh city is the homeland of late President Ho Chi Minh and represents the second locality after Hanoi to be selected for the placement of Lenin’s statue.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Bui Dinh Long, vice chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, reviewed the positive developments of Vietnam – Russia relations over the pat more than seven decades, as well as relations between Nghe An province and Ulyanovsk province established in the 1990s.
Lenin’s statue has taken shape in Vinh city after President Ho Chi Minh’s statue was unveiled in 2017 in Ulyanovsk next to the Ho Chi Minh Boulevard in Zasniazhsky district. It is a cultural and artistic symbol that expresses the close bond the people of the two provinces have for each other.
The statue will contribute to deepening the relationship between Nghe An and Ulyanovsk in the fields of investment, trade, health, education-training, and tourism, he stressed.
For his part, Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich expressed his belief that the statue of Lenin will become a new symbol of friendship and cooperation not only between Ulyanovsk and Nghe An, but also between the people of the two countries.
The statue, which weighs 4.5 tonnes and measures 3.6 metres in height, was crafted from pure copper in Ulyanovsk and is a gift from the Russian city to Nghe An.
