Larsen & Toubro eyes Hanoi's urban railway projects
VOV.VN - Larsen & Toubro (L&T), an Indian conglomerate, would like to participate in urban railway projects in Hanoi, contributing to the development of a modern and sustainable public transportation system in the city.

Narayan M. Vernekar, CEO and managing director of the Heavy Civil Infrastructure Business at Larsen & Toubro, expressed the firm’s interest at a reception given by deputy head of the Hanoi administration Duong Duc Tuan on February 21.
Vernekar said Larsen & Toubro has acquired extensive experience in infrastructure construction, particularly in urban railway projects across various countries such as Qatar, Egypt and Mauritius.
L&T hopes to collaborate with Hanoi authorities and Vietnamese partners to implement metro lines, helping to address urban traffic congestion and improve the quality of life for residents, he said.
According to the CEO, India and Vietnam have a strong and friendly relationship, and Larsen & Toubro’s cooperation with Hanoi on these projects will further strengthen the bond between the two countries.
For his part, Tuan briefed his guest on the urban railway projects that Hanoi has implemented and is currently developing. The city has completed and commercially operated the Cat Linh - Ha Dong metro line and is working on two other urban railway lines, using loans from France, the European Investment Bank, and the Asian Development Bank.
He said by 2030 with a vision towards 2050, Hanoi plans to build 10 urban railway lines with a total length of approximately 413 km that will require an estimated investment of around US$37 billion.
By 2045, Hanoi will invest in the construction of five additional lines, extending over 200 km, with an estimated capital demand of about US$18 billion.
He welcomed Larsen & Toubro’s proposal and said exploring potential collaboration with such an experienced firm like Larsen & Toubro aligns with the overall Vietnam-India relationship and Hanoi’s urban railway development strategy.
Hanoi looks forward to support and cooperation from leading global railway corporations like Larsen & Toubro, he affirmed.
