Largest outbreak under control, no new COVID-19 cases on August 22

VOV.VN - Vietnam has controlled the largest coronavirus outbreak, registering no new cases during the past 12 hours, therefore keeping its tally of infections unchanged at 1,009 and death toll at 25.

This is the second consecutive morning Vietnam has recorded no new coronavirus cases, VOV has learned. The country’s largest outbreak in Da Nang and another one in Hai Duong province have been put under control.

A group of leading experts led by Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son left Da Nang on August 21 after having stayed in the locality for three weeks to help control the outbreak.

The latest outbreak in Hai Duong province, a gateway to Hanoi capital, has also gradually been controlled, registering no new cases over the past two days.

As of 6.00hrs August 22, Vietnam has registered 667 community acquired cases, including 527 cases tied to the Da Nang outbreak that occurred in late July. The remaining 341 cases were infected with the virus before they returned to Vietnam.

The new outbreak has spread to 15 cities and provinces since the SARS-CoV-2 virus recurred in Da Nang on July 25. Da Nang is the hardest hit locality, recording more than 300 cases, followed by Quang Nam, Hanoi, Hai Duong and Ho Chi Minh City.

Of the 1,009 cases Vietnam has confirmed since January this year, 547 cases have been discharged from hospital after making a full recovery. The remaining 462 cases are receiving treatment at medical facilities across the country with 130 cases having tested negative at least once.

The death toll caused by the disease remains unchanged at 25. Most of the fatalities were elderly people who suffered from serious illnesses such as end-stage kidney cancer, severe pneumonia, diabetes and multi-organ failure.
