Lao Defence Ministry donates US$200,000 to Vietnam’s COVID-19 fight

VOV.VN - Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Chansamone Chanyalath on June 23 presented US$200,000 to Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung in support of Vietnam’s ongoing COVID-19 fight.

At the hand-over ceremony held in Vientiane, Defense Minister Chanyalath noted the money raised by Lao military officers and soldiers is to support Vietnamese people who are combating the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The donation demonstrates the spirit of mutual affection and assistance in difficulty of the two countries’ people, he stressed.

Ambassador Hung thanked the Lao Defence Ministry for the valuable gift which he said would be sent back to Vietnam at the earliest.

He said despite difficulty, many Lao organisations and businesses have given donations to support Vietnam’s COVID-19 fight.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Laos has so far received more than US$1.2 million in cash and medical supplies to assist with the fight against the pandemic in Vietnam, added the ambassador.
