KOICA supports Lao Cai with social work

The Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has approved a US$14 million aid package to carry out the Haeng Bok (Happy) Programme in Vietnam’s northern border province of Lao Cai between 2014 and 2017.

The information was announced by Kim In, KOICA’s chief representative in Vietnam, on the occasion of his working visit to the province on June 18-19.

Under the programme, KOICA will help Lao Cai build 500 km of rural roads and boarding houses for students in poor communes and provide medical equipment for the provincial Obstetrics-Paediatrics Hospital and communal health stations.

Local officials will be sent to training courses in the Republic of Korea, while Korean volunteers will be assigned to work in Lao Cai province.

The KOICA’s representative said he hopes that the programme will make a significant contribution to bringing happiness to Vietnamese people, especially those in disadvantaged mountainous regions.
