Kien Giang develops rural transport infrastructure
The southern province of Kien Giang aims to build 1,420 km of roads in rural areas with a total investment of VND1.42 trillion (US$63.9 million).
Director of the department Nguyen Van Dung said all communes in the mainland have roads concreted.
Between 2011 and 2015, authorities injected more than VND1.96 trillion (US$88.2 million) to build, upgrade, and expand 2,370 km of roads, raising the total length of reinforced roads to 4,258 km.
The locality is carrying out a number of transport projects and strives to put into use 380km of roads in 2016.The improved transport system has facilitates local traveling and agricultural production, thus contributing to local sustainable poverty reduction strategy as well as reducing gaps between rural and urban areas.
Developing transport infrastructure is one of the criteria of the national programme on new style rural building, which was initiated by the Government since 2010.
