Khanh Hoa uncover illegal pangolin keeping case, one animal found dead

VOV.VN - Police in south-central Khanh Hoa province have uncovered an illegal wildlife keeping case involving five pangolins, including one found dead.

Officers from the Economic Police Division under the provincial Public Security Department caught a married couple red-handed keeping endangered wildlife during a crackdown on crime ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.

At about 10:45 a.m. on February 4, the task force discovered Le Thanh Tam, 45, and his wife Nguyen Hoang Nhat Lam, 41, both residing in Suoi Hiep Commune, tying two live pangolins with ropes and placing them in plastic bags in their yard.

During questioning, Tam admitted that, in addition to the two pangolins found at the scene, he was keeping two more animals behind his house. Investigators also discovered another pangolin carcass stored in a freezer at his father’s residence.

The Investigation Police Agency under the provincial Public Security Department has seized all evidence and is completing legal procedures to handle the case in accordance with Vietnamese law.
