VOV.VN - The Ministry of Health reported the detection of an additional 3,698 active COVID-19 infections, including one imported case, on the evening of July 28, thereby raising the daily infection count to 6,559.
Among a total of 6,555 domestic cases recorded in the day, Ho Chi Minh City accounted for the majority at 4,449, followed by Binh Duong (631), Dong Nai (271), Dong Thap (244), Khanh Hoa (147), and Tay Ninh (120). The remaining localities reported either two-digit or single-digit local infections.
Of all the cases confirmed nationwide, 1,184 have been detected among the local community, with the remainders being detected in quarantine zones or in areas currently under lockdown.
As of the evening of July 28, a total of 118,612 domestically-transmitted infections and 2,207 imported ones were documented in the country. The caseload since the beginning of the fourth wave of COVID-19 outbreaks which initially hit the nation three months ago has therefore risen to 117,967.
Furthermore, July 22 also saw a record figure of coronavirus patients being discharged from hospital, with 4,511 recoveries.
The same day the Treatment Subcommittee under the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control announced a further 106 fatalities relating to COVID-19 in 6 provinces and cities during the course of July 19-26.
With regard to the country’s COVID-19 vaccine supplies, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has requested that the Minister of Health continue to direct and support localities and businesses to access global COVID-19 vaccines, as stated in a document issued on July 27 by the Government Office.
This request was issued following proposals made by companies and organisations seeking permission to negotiate and import doses in order to offer free vaccinations for the entire population.
The Ministry of Health is therefore responsible for the state management of vaccine quality, licensing, storage, and organisation of vaccinations in a timely, scientific, safe, and efficient manner.
The nation is making every effort to secure 150 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine as a means of achieving herd immunity later this year or in early 2022.
