Japan provides aid for gender-equal learning environments in Vietnam
VOV.VN - The Japanese Embassy in Vietnam and Plan International Japan signed a grant aid agreement in Hanoi on March 25 to implement a project on improving gender-equal learning environments in primary and secondary schools in northern Ha Giang and Lai Chau provinces.

The project will be undertaken over three years (March 2025 – February 2028) with a total grant of VND42.4 billion (US$1.7 million).
The aid will be used to build and renovate dormitories, counseling rooms, medical rooms, and sanitation facilities at 26 schools in Meo Vac and Yen Minh districts of Ha Giang province, and Sin Ho district of Lai Chau province.
The project that is expected to create a safe, gender-inclusive learning environment to support ethnic minority students will run training courses on comprehensive gender education and reproductive health for teachers, school managers, and local leaders.
It will also empower students to propose gender-inclusive education policies to local education departments.
Yurie Mizukami, a representative of Plan International Japan in Vietnam, shared that the project will help enhance education quality, particularly for ethnic minority girls, eeduce early marriage, teenage pregnancy, and outdated customs, and improve students’ career orientation and self-sufficiency.
Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki stated that this project is a collaboration between the Japanese government and the NGO Plan International Japan in Vietnam. Since 2002, the Japanese government has partnered with Japanese NGOs to implement 96 projects in various fields, including economic development, poverty reduction, and education support, bringing significant benefits to the Vietnamese people.
This marks the 97th project, and Japan remains committed to working with NGOs and local authorities in Vietnam to ensure the success of future projects, he said.
