Japan and Taiwan are top destinations for Vietnamese workers abroad

VOV.VN - Japan and Taiwan (China) continue to assert their roles as the two key recipients of Vietnamese workers abroad, as both markets accounted for 83.5% of Vietnam’s total overseas workforce in the first eight months of 2025.

According to the Department of Overseas Labour Management under the Ministry of Home Affairs, 12,182 Vietnamese workers went abroad under labour contracts in August alone. Among them, Japan welcomed 4,347 workers, while Taiwan received 5,435, together making up nearly 80% of the monthly total.

The Republic of Korea remained stable with 1,583 workers, alongside other markets such as China, Singapore, and Romania.

Cumulatively, the first eight months of 2025 saw 97,963 Vietnamese workers go abroad, meeting 75.3% of the year’s plan (130,000 workers). Japan ranked first with 43,905 workers, followed by Taiwan with 37,906 and the Republic of Korea with 8,923. Other destinations maintained stable intake levels, including China (2,000 workers) and Singapore (nearly 1,500). In Europe, Hungary received 581 workers and Romania 458, showing early positive signs.

Japan and Taiwan are Vietnam’s most stable and traditional labor markets, with high demand and policies well-suited to Vietnamese workers’ skills. Meanwhile, Europe is seen as a promising market but requires stronger measures to expand, including improving workers’ foreign language proficiency and technical skills to meet growing requirements.

In the final months of 2025, the Department of Overseas Labour Management will intensify efforts to meet the year’s targets, with a dual focus on quantity and quality. The focus is not only on meeting the planned number of workers sent abroad but also on enhancing labour quality and strengthening the protection of workers' rights.
