The Asia America Gateway, which connects Vietnam and the US, was scheduled to be fixed from March 4 to 6, but the plan has been canceled as a maintenance ship failed to enter the location of cable rupture, a representative of FPT Telecom toldThanh Nien.
The cable has ruptured at a section linking Vietnam and Singapore since early February, he said.
The exact date for the maintenance has not been fixed.
The 20,000-km cable system has encountered frequent ruptures since it was put into use in November 2009.
Vietnamese Internet providers VNPT and Viettel, along with three foreign firms, are investing in a new cable.
The Asia Pacific Gateway cable, which is 10,400 kilometers long and has higher speed than the AAG, will go live this year to connect the central city of Da Nang with Singapore, Malaysia and Japan.
Viettel has also invested in a 25,000-kilometer cable connecting Vietnam with Europe.
