International Youth Day celebrated in Hanoi

VOV.VN - Vietnamese youth must be fully prepared and equipped with green knowledge, skills, and capabilities in order to join the workforce and promote a green economy, said Ramla Khalidi, resident representative of the UNDP, at a ceremony held on August 11 to mark International Youth Day August 12.

The theme of this year's event is “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World” which aims to underscore the importance of equipping young people with green skills to achieve a brighter, greener, and more sustainable future for the country.

As part of her opening speech, Pauline, resident coordinator of the UN in Vietnam, revealed that although the demand for green skills is increasing remarkably, 60% of young people may lack skills required to thrive in a green economy by 2030. She emphasised the need to resolve the disparity and ensure that everyone enjoys equal access to green skills.

For her part, Ramla Khalidi, resident representative of the UNDP in Vietnam, pointed out that the country has exerted great efforts towards achieving an equitable energy transition and net-zero emission, while underscoring the importance of transformation of workforce as a means of boosting a green economy with low carbon.

She stressed that Vietnamese youth is required to be fully prepared and equipped with knowledge, skills, and green capacities in order to join the workforce in the future.
