Intense heatwave hits large parts of Vietnam, temperatures rise to above 38°C
VOV.VN - April 21 - 22 are expected to mark the peak of the ongoing heatwave affecting northern and central provinces of Vietnam, with temperatures anticipated to reach between 35°C and 37°C and even 38°C and beyond in some areas, according to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.

This heatwave is attributed to a high-pressure system currently dominating the northern and central regions of Vietnam, leading to clear skies and minimal cloud cover, which contributes to a rapid increase in temperatures during the daytime.
The intensity of the heat is compounded by low humidity levels, which further exacerbates the perceived temperature.
The northern, north-central and central regions will experience hot weather during the daytime on April 21, with some areas enduring intense and particularly extreme heat. Daytime temperatures are set to stay between 35–37°C, or possibly exceed 38°C.
In the late afternoon and evening, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms that may bring tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong winds, said meteorologists.
The heatwave will continue to affect the northern and central regions on April 22, before subsiding from April 23, with scattered showers and thunderstorms.
Other regions across the country such as the Central Highlands and the South are also engulfed in intense heat on April 21, and the hot weather there is expected to last for the coming days.
Such extreme heat conditions increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, including heat exhaustion and heatstroke, especially among vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and those with underlying health conditions. Furthermore, prolonged exposure to these high temperatures can lead to dehydration and other complications, necessitating increased vigilance in maintaining hydration and avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours.
People are advised to limit outdoor activities, particularly during midday hours when temperatures are at their highest, and take necessary precautions to protect health and well-being.
