Installation Art Festival encourages protection of marine environment

VOV.VN - A wide range of special activities were held at the Installation Art Festival in Hoi An on December 22 as part of efforts to reduce plastic waste with the aim of protecting the marine environment.

The event was also part of an initiative to strengthen connectivity among the tourism business community, as well as with local people and tourists.

On display throughout the occasion were 20 art installations made from recycled materials, street art performances, the Tan Thanh tourism market, local and international cuisine, as well as other activities held to collect garbage at the beach.

Upon addressing the event, Phan Xuan Thanh, chairman of the Quang Nam Tourism Association, emphazised that aside from protecting the marine environment and encouraging creativity among the local tourism community, the function has also contributed to sustainable tourism development by preserving and promoting indigenous values.

The move is therefore anticipated to provide a foundation for Hoi An as it seeks to realize its desire to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.

Christian Manhart, UNESCO Chief Representative in Vietnam, stressed that the tourism industry must play a crucial role in ensuring that the environmental and social impacts of tourism activities should be managed in a sustainable manner.

The UNESCO representative assessed that the sustainable tourism scheme will provide additional enjoyable experiences for tourists, whilst also heightening healthy living, reinforcing solidarity, and offering further business opportunities, noting that UNESCO will continue to support their partners in Vietnam, especially those based in Quang Nam.
