Information ministry has traditional day on August 28

The Prime Minister has decided to make August 28 the Traditional Day (or the Foundation Day) of Vietnam’s information and communications sector.

The Day is intended to review the sector’s development throughout history and encourage officials and staff to promote their performance.

It is also an occasion to give credit and rewards to those who have made great contributions to the growth of information and communication activities in Vietnam.

The Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC) manages press, publication, post, telecommunications, information technology and information for external services, among others. Only some of its subordinate sectors have had their own traditional days so far.

It proposed the Traditional Day based on the fact that on August 28, 1945 – just a few days ahead of September 2 when the foundation of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was declared, President Ho Chi Minh signed a decree on the establishment of 10 ministries and sectors.

Among them, the Ministry of Information and Popularisation and the Ministry of Transport and Public Works were the predecessors of the MoIC.
