Indian naval ship INS Sahyadri docks in Danang

(VOV) - The Indian Naval Ship Sahyadri arrived in Danang on October 2 to begin a four-day visit as part of an operational deployment to the East Sea and North West Pacific region.

The ship’s mission is in pursuance of India's 'Look East' and 'Act East' policy, according to a release from the Indian Navy.

The visit, the first visit since an Indian warship visited Haiphong in August 2014, aims to enhance bilateral ties and inter-operability between the navies of the two countries.

During the stay in harbour a wide variety of activities to enhance cooperation and interaction between the two navies have been planned.

These include official calls and interaction with dignitaries of the Vietnam government and the Vietnam Peoples’ Navy (VPN), a reception on-board the INS Sahyadri and on-board visits by the local populace.

The release by the Indian Navy also said guided tours for Indian naval personnel and professional interaction between personnel of both the navies are on the agenda.

On departure, the ship will participate in training exercises with Vietnam Naval ships to improve interoperability in communications as well as Search and Rescue procedures and then travel to Sagami Bay in Japan.

The INS Sahyadri is an indigenously built warship of the Shivalik Class, which was inducted into the Indian Navy on July 21, 2012.

The multi-role stealth frigate has a variety of weaponry in her arsenal and the capability to carry two integral multi-role helicopters.

The ship is presently being commanded by Captain Kunal Raj Kumar.
