VOV.VN - Tan Son Nhat Airport Customs Branch announced on October 30 that it co-operated with other relevant units to arrest an Indian national for illegally transporting over 360 diamonds through Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to details from the initial investigation, on October 25 local authorities noticed D.A.K, an Indian citizen, acting suspiciously after entering the southern city on a flight from Hong Kong (China).
Upon checking his luggage, they discovered a total of 15 nylon packages containing 362 diamonds hidden at the bottom of two candy boxes and covered by real candies on top.
A further investigation into the case is now underway.
This comes after the municipal Department of Public Security teamed up with customs officers at Tan Son Nhat on October 23 when they discovered Indian citizen P.S.H transporting 716 diamonds while entering Vietnam from India.
At the police station, he confessed that they are natural and synthetic diamonds and would have been sold to traders in Ho Chi Minh City if they had been successfully transported.
Overall, within the course of days, Ho Chi Minh City authorities discovered and seized 1,078 smuggled diamonds worth tens of billions of VND.
