VOV.VN - Vietnam has so far received six 636 kilo-class submarines from Russia to modernise and enhance the capacity of its navy forces to defend the country's territorial waters.

The High Command of Vietnam People’s Navy hosted a ceremony to receive the HQ 182-Hanoi submarine at Cam Ranh port in coastal Khanh Hoa province on January 15, 2014. 

The acquisition of the submarine is part of government plans to build an elite people’s army meeting higher requirements of national construction and defence.

The second Kilo-class submarine HQ 183 Ho Chi Minh arrived at Cam Ranh Port on March 22, 2014.

Heavy-lift vessel Rolldock Storm carrying HQ 183 Ho Chi Minh anchored at Cam Ranh Port sending it to Cam Ranh military port.



The Vietnam People’s Navy hosted a flag-raising ceremony for two new Kilo-class submarines at the military port on April 3, 2014.


The third Kilo-class submarine HQ-184 HaiPhong arrived at Cam Ranh Port on January 31, 2015.



Heavy lift vessel Rolldock Storm carrying the fourth Kilo-submarine named HQ-185 Khanh Hoa entered Cam Ranh Port on June 30, 2015.


A flag-raising ceremony for HQ-184 Hai Phong and HQ-185 KhanhHoa was held at Cam Ranh Military Port on August 1, 2015.

The fifth Kilo-class submarine HQ-186 Da Nang arrived at Cam Ranh Port on February 2, 2016.



Heavy-lift vessel RollDock Storm carrying the last submarine HQ-187 Ba Ria-Vung Tau entered Cam Ranh Port on January 20.

Russia signed a contract to supply six 636 Varshavyanka Kilo-class submarines worth US$2 billion for Vietnam People’s Navy in 2009. The contract included crew training and supply of necessary equipment.
