VOV.VN - Coast Guard officials have found debris from one of its planes, CASA-212, that crashed into the sea carrying nine crewmembers on June 16 while searching for a missing fighter jet.
In a prepared statement, the Ministry of Defence said the Coast Guard located the debris three nautical miles into the Chinese side of the offshore border line with Vietnam. |
The CASA-212 plane went off the radar mid-day on June 16 while searching for a Russian-made Sukhoi Su-30MK2 fighter jet that is believed to have crashed offshore of the central province of Nghe An two days prior. |
The Ministry said the plane disappeared from radar screens when it was descending due to bad weather conditions. |
There have been no traces of those on board the search plane, according to the statement. |
Meanwhile, the search for the fighter jet continues. |
The fighter jet was carrying two pilots, one of whom was rescued after managing to eject, but authorities have yet to locate the fighter jet wreckage or the other pilot. |
