VOV.VN - Coast Guard officials have found debris from one of its planes, CASA-212, that crashed into the sea carrying nine crewmembers on June 16 while searching for a missing fighter jet.

In a prepared statement, the Ministry of Defence said the Coast Guard located the debris three nautical miles into the Chinese side of the offshore border line with Vietnam.

The CASA-212 plane went off the radar mid-day on June 16 while searching for a Russian-made Sukhoi Su-30MK2 fighter jet that is believed to have crashed offshore of the central province of Nghe An two days prior.

The Ministry said the plane disappeared from radar screens when it was descending due to bad weather conditions.

There have been no traces of those on board the search plane, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, the search for the fighter jet continues.

The fighter jet was carrying two pilots, one of whom was rescued after managing to eject, but authorities have yet to locate the fighter jet wreckage or the other pilot.
