IC industry begins to take shape in HCM City

VOV.VN - A deal between a Japanese and Vietnamese firm was unveiled in Ho Chi Minh City on January 19 that lays the groundwork for the development of an integrated circuitry (IC) industry in Vietnam.

Although details remain sketchy, the Japan Nagano Techno Foundation has committed to assisting the Integrated Circuit Design Research & Education Centre design and manufacture the small electronic devices.

“It has also agreed to assist in the training of staff,” said Le Thai Hy, a HCM City official.

This deal represents the first instance of any legitimate attempt to develop a complete semiconductor industry ecosystem within the country – including materials, equipment, manufacturing and design technologies.
