Hundreds of people join search for crashed military aircraft

VOV.VN - Hundreds of officers and soldiers from the Binh Dinh and Dak Lak Provincial Military Commands, along with other relevant units and local residents, are gathering at the Yok Don National Park to join search efforts for the wreckage of the military training aircraft which crashed over central Binh Dinh province two days ago.

According to a leader of the Dak Lak Provincial Military Command, the unit was informed by the Air Force Officer School’s Air Force Regiment 940 of the radar signal of a Yak-130 military aircraft in Buon Don district.

He added that the unit also quickly mobilised local soldiers, rangers, militia, and local people to the park in support of the search operation.

Furthermore, the local authorities of Drang Phoc village in Krong Na commune of Buon Don district also announced that any local resident who finds the crashed aircraft will receive a reward of VND10 million.

The aircraft, belonging to the 940th Air Regiment, was engaged in a complex training mission involving long-distance, no-horizon, and cloud penetration flying, in challenging weather conditions on November 6.

As the aircraft prepared to land after completing its training objectives, the two pilots - Colonel Nguyen Van Son and Senior Colonel Nguyen Hong Quan - discovered the landing gear had failed to deploy. Despite attempting emergency procedures, they were unable to rectify the issue.

With the safety of the crew being paramount, the pilots were authorised to eject themselves from the aircraft. Both the pilots were successfully ejected and were later found in a mountain in stable health condition.

Experts were looking for the black box to identify the cause of the incident.

The Yak-130 is a Russian-manufactured training jet and is capable of reaching speeds up to 1,060 kph. It can fly at a maximum altitude of 12,500 metres.
