Hospitals urged to improve dengue fever treatment

The Medical Examination and Treatment Management Department under the Ministry of Health has called on centrally-run hospitals and provincial health departments to organise training courses on dengue fever diagnosis and treatment at both private and public health centres.

The move aims to improve the quality of dengue fever treatment and reduce the rate of dengue-related deaths, director of the department Luong Ngoc Khue said on June 19.

The department required relevant units to maintain and consolidate the operation of the Dengue Fever Treatment Group as well as hotlines at healthcare clinics.

The National Hospital of Tropical Diseases, the National Hospital of Pediatrics, the Hue General Hospital, the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Tropical Diseases and the Pediatrics Hospitals 1 and 2 in Ho Chi Minh City were asked to prepare all necessary equipment, medicines and manpower for the admission and treatment of dengue fever patients.
The centrally-run hospitals were also tasked to help lower-level hospitals with training, especially in diagnosing and treating complex dengue fever cases.

According to the Health Ministry, by June 4, 2017, Vietnam reported 36,437 cases of dengue fever in 47 cities and provinces, of whom 10 patients died, as compared with 36,224 cases and ten deaths in the same period last year.-
