Ho Chi Minh City seeks ideas for innovation district planning

Ho Chi Minh City on April 24 announced an international competition calling for planning ideas to develop a highly interactive and innovative urban area in the east of the city.

Ho Chi Minh City is the largest economic hub of Vietnam and has a high-quality labour force, with its labour productivity posting 2.7fold higher than the country’s average.

The city set a target of building an innovation district in line with the fourth Industrial Revolution in order to create an interaction between the fields of research, human resources training, and technology application, and to support such surrounding provinces as Dong Nai and Binh Duong to make a driving force for economic development in the southern region.

The highly interactive and innovative urban area will comprise of Districts 2 and 9 and Thu Duc district, with a total area of more than 21,000ha.

Capacity profiles should be sent to the organising board, with deadline falling on May 2. Two months later, the organising board will announce a list of participating units and hold the competition.

The organising board will present one first prize worth 4.5 billion VND (193,100 USD) and one second prize of 2 billion VND in August.
