Ho Chi Minh City enjoys rare hybrid solar eclipse
VOV.VN - Residents of Ho Chi Minh City joined with others worldwide in admiring a 'super rare’ hybrid solar eclipse, which occurred at 11:20 a.m. on April 20.
According to details given by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), a hybrid solar eclipse is a rare type of eclipse that occurs only a few times every century.
It noted that hybrid eclipses shift from annular to total due to our planet's curvature. A total eclipse occurs when the moon completely obscures the sun, whereas an annular eclipse occurs when the moon obscures the sun but appears smaller, duly leaving the outline of a solar ring, with the rare hybrid eclipse taking place when both occur at the same time.
NASA shared that aside from Ho Chi Minh City, the hybrid solar eclipse was also visible in Western Australia, East Timor, and Indonesia.
The next partial eclipse will be visible in India on August 2, 2027, and the next annular solar eclipse will occur in 2031.
