Herd of dolphins make surprise appearance in Nha Trang
VOV.VN - A herd of around 100 dolphins were sighted on May 18 in the waters around Dung Island, about 10 km off the coast of Nha Trang, a popular beach destination in central Vietnam.
The sighting was captured by Van, a local fisherman from Nha Trang, who filmed a 34-second video at around 1 P.M. as the dolphins swam together near his boat. The herd came as close as 50 meters, thrilling those on board with the rare and lively display.
Van estimated that a few of the dolphins weighed nearly 100 kg each. The group remained visible for about 10 minutes before diving back into the sea, likely migrating to other areas.
Dam Hai Van, head of the Nha Trang Bay management board, said that dolphins appearing in the area shows that the marine environment in the bay is fresh and recovering well.
This recent sighting follows similar events in 2020 and 2022, when dolphins were also observed along the coastal waters of Khanh Hoa province.
Dolphins are mammals, ranging in size from 1.2 to 9.5 meteres long and weighing from 40 kg to 10 tonnes. They are both intelligent and friendly and typically swim in groups. In some instances, they have also been recorded to save people who are in distress at sea.
