Heavy rain breaks scorching heat in Vietnam

VOV.VN - Heavy rain is expected to sweep across the northern and central regions of Vietnam as of May 22 night, helping to reduce the intensity of heat that has scorched the regions for the past few days, according to the National Centre for hydro Meteorological Forecasting.

The past few days have seen northern and central localities endure a heat wave, with daytime temperatures rising to 38-40℃ in the northern delta and 40-42℃ in the highlands.

However, the scorching heat will subdue when a cold air wave is moving toward Vietnam from the north. The cold spell is forecast to hit northern border localities on May 22 night and then spread across the northern, north-central and central regions on the following day.

The cold spell will bring heavy rain to the regions, helping to lower the heat. Daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 34 - 37℃, while relative humidity is anticipated to hover around 40-60%.

Meteorologists warned about a risk of hailstorms in the highlands and flooding in the lowlands.
