Health Ministry orders nationwide review of HiPP baby food over suspected rodenticide
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s Ministry of Health has ordered a nationwide review of HiPP baby food following a report that Austrian police found rodenticide in the products.
The Vietnam Food Safety Authority under the Ministry of Health has issued an urgent document to provincial and municipal Departments of Health, the Ho Chi Minh City Food Safety Department, and food safety sub-departments nationwide, requesting a review and handling of HiPP baby food products in line with a European warning.
According to information from Austria’s Agency for Health and Food Safety on April 19, HiPP (Germany-Switzerland), together with the SPAR supermarket chain, recalled all “HiPP Vegetable Carrot with Potato” products (190g jars) from about 1,500 stores across Austria after the product was suspected of containing rodenticide.
In response, the VFA asked relevant units to urgently review the registration and self-declaration status of HiPP baby food jar products.
They are also required to work with the company that announced the products to notify distributors and consumers to stop using them and to carry out a recall in line with the manufacturer’s recommendation.
Relevant units must report the quantities imported, sold and remaining in stock, and propose handling measures for the affected batches to the Vietnam Food Safety Authority before April 27.
The agency also urged local health departments to inform consumers not to use the affected batches of HiPP baby food products.
On the same evening, the Vietnam Food Safety Authority sent an official dispatch to the E-commerce and Digital Economy Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, requesting that it notify e-commerce platforms, sales websites and online storefronts of the case.
It also called for coordination with sellers and distributors to stop trading the affected batches if they are circulating in Vietnam, remove information related to substandard products, and handle violations in accordance with the law, if any.
