HCM City seeks overseas aid funds for metro line

The HCM City People’s Committee has asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment for official development assistance funds to build its metro line No 3A from Ben Thanh Market in District 1 to Binh Chanh district’s Tan Kien commune.

The route will be built in two phases, the first from Ben Thanh to Mien Tay New Coach Station, and the second from the bus station to the terminal in Binh Chanh district.

The 9.7km first phase will cost VND40 trillion (US$1.82 billion), and the 10.1km second phase, VND22 trillion (US$1 billion).

Metro line No 3A is among the city’s priority metro projects. Work on line No 1 began in 2012.

A total of six metro lines, in addition to a monorail network, will be built in a city that is plagued by traffic jams and pollution.
