HCM City police break up cross-border drug ring, detain 30 people
VOV.VN - Police in Ho Chi Minh City have broken up a cross-border drug trafficking ring that transported synthetic narcotics from Cambodia into Tay Ninh province for distribution in several localities.
The Ho Chi Minh City Police said on March 11 that its Drug Crime Investigation Division (PC04) uncovered the network during a coordinated operation.
Earlier, officers from Team 4 under PC04, working with Thai My commune police, stopped a car suspected of transporting illegal drugs. A search of the vehicle led to the arrest of Vo Minh Thinh, 33, and the seizure of more than 7 kg of drugs hidden inside the car.
Investigators later expanded the case and arrested additional individuals, including Tu Thanh Thien Tan, Lam Quoc Hung and Nguyen Phuoc Thinh, who were identified as key figures in the network, along with more than 26 others involved in the operation.
Initial investigation showed that the group received drugs from areas along the border between Cambodia and Tay Ninh province. The narcotics were then transported to communes in Tay Ninh bordering Ho Chi Minh City, where they were stored, divided and delivered to distribution points.
According to investigators, Vo Minh Thinh played a central role in directing the operation and handling drug distribution. Tan, Hung and Nguyen Phuoc Thinh assisted with storing, packaging and transporting the drugs.
Police have detained 30 people for investigation on allegations of drug trafficking, organising illegal drug use and illegal drug consumption.
They seized more than 17 kg of drugs, nearly 1,000 ecstasy pills and 60 packets of narcotic liquid during the investigation.
