Man caught transporting drug pills near Vietnam – Laos border
VOV.VN - Border guard forces in the mountainous province of Dien Bien have coordinated with relevant units to arrest a Vietnamese man for illegally transporting a large quantity of synthetic drugs in a border area between Vietnam and Laos.
At around 7 p.m. on March 8, a joint task force consisting of border guard officers, anti-drug crime investigators, and customs officers detected a man riding a motorbike from the border area toward Pung Giat Village, Muong Pon Commune with suspicious behaviour.
When officers signalled him to stop for inspection, the man suddenly accelerated in an attempt to flee. However, after only a few minutes, an ambush team managed to intercept, restrain and apprehend him.
A search at the scene found a black plastic bag containing three yellow rectangular packages. The packages held 90 blue plastic bags filled with pink tablets marked “WY”, totalling 18,000 pills suspected to be synthetic drugs.
The detained man was Thao A Dia, born in 2002, residing in Pu Cha Village, Muong Pon Commune. He confessed that he had been hired by an unidentified man to transport the drugs to an area along National Highway 12 in Pung Giat Village for a payment of VND5 million.
To avoid detection, Dia placed the drugs in a plastic bag, rode the motorbike with one hand while holding the bag in the other, intending to quickly discard the evidence and escape if pursued.
Authorities are continuing to expand the investigation to identify other individuals involved in the case.
